Line Up Conversations

I mentioned last week that I had been having problems getting my tablet connected to WiFi.  I tried everything I could think of plus the advice of others (thanks, Deb), but nothing worked.  I decided I was just going to have to buy another tablet although I was sure the problem was with my internet.  Friday I switched it on and I was connected.  It stayed on until yesterday and now it is gone again.  I am going to have to phone my provider although I hate doing that because you have to repeat all the things you have already done.

A lot of Canada is experiencing a heat wave.  There have been numerous deaths resulting from it.  We are still around normal temperatures here although it has been raining for quite a while.  I only have 4 more row to finish on my quilt and then I can get another loaded.  I have so many quilts I want to do but there are so many other things that keep claiming my time.  Perhaps I will have to leave the computer turned off one day a week to see if I accomplish more.

My husband was shopping today and there were line ups everywhere.  Usually the beginning of the week isn't bad but with a long weekend coming up the tourists had arrived early.  As he was waiting for his turn, he started chatting with another person (he always does this.  A very friendly man), and  (I can't remember how the topic came up) he mentioned that I am a quilter.  The lady was very interested as she had been wanting to learn the craft.  Hubby gave her my company name so I am looking forward to hearing from her.

Stay cool if you are in one of the heat wave areas.

WiFi Woes

This isn't quilting related or not directly but I am hoping that someone might have a suggestion for me.  I have not been able to connect my tablet to my internet for some time..  There hasn't been any trouble with the desk top or hubby's lap top but the tablet will not connect no matter what I do.  I am going to take it to the library tomorrow to try their WiFi .  I don't think it is the tablet because I have an old laptop which hasn't been used for a while and it won't connect either.

It is an irritation because I use the tablet quite a bit especially for reading books.

I had a thought today which I am going to do.  I mentioned yesterday about the goody bag we got and I think I am going to make some place mats to donate to the organization. They can be handed out to the seniors at Christmas.  I will have to be sure to mark that down on my calendar or it won't get done.

Hair Salon's Opening!!

It is wonderful to hear that Ontario is moving into another opening phase.  I will even be able to get a hair cut next Wednesday!  I usually wait a bit after the salons open to give those who are employed a chance first.  I am looking forward to seeing our television news media and politicians look a bit less shaggy.

We had a nice surprise today.  A lovely lady from a local agency arrived with an 'isolation' bag of goodies for us.  I love being a senior.  The bag contained some soup, hygiene products, a powerful flashlight and quite a few activity items such as cards, games and  puzzles.  One of the games involves identifying the photos of well know people.  We will have fun with that one.

It is still a bit on the cooler side so I have been getting a lot done.  Pulled some weeds, wrote my magazine article and did some other things that kept getting put off.

Tomorrow I hope to have the quilt top all but done as well as getting my items ready for the opening of the Burk's Falls Art and Craft Centre on July 1.  It has been a long time coming and the members are excited at having the store operational again.

Great Customer Service.

The quilt on my frame is getting done quickly.  The owner said she wasn't in a hurry but I have a ton of others waiting to be finished.  It has been coolish and raining for the past couple of days so it is good weather to be indoors and quilting.

I also took advantage of the cooler days to do a bit of baking.  I made my husband some date squares and a fruit crisp for Father's Day.  Two of his favourite desserts.

We got out new pressure pump installed on Friday  but we had problems with, what seemed to be, air in the pipes.  I suggested we call the well people but hubby thought we just needed to run the water for a while and it would clear up.  It didn't.  Have you ever tried to take a shower with the water hissing and spitting at you?  By the next Friday I had had enough and called the company.  As it was after hours, I left a phone message and an email one just to make sure.  Early Monday morning, we got a call saying they had the message, all the service people where out that day but somebody would come today-Tuesday.  Wendy called before nine to say when the man would be here.  He was.  Found the pump was faulty and changed it and we don't have any more problems.  We are really impressed with the customer service of this company.  I am looking forward to my quiet shower tomorrow,

Lots of Projects

Congratulations, Karen, on finishing your daughter's birthday quilt.  I bet she is going to love it.  Would you like to share a photo?

I have had an eventful day.  I got up to find that there was a problem with our water.  We were getting dirt in the sink and the taps and toilets weren't working properly.  We thought at first the well might have gone dry which, although we haven't had much rain, didn't seem likely.  Hubby thought it had something to do with the pump and a hefty service call and repair bill later, he was proven right.  The pressure pump had gone.

A friend came over this afternoon with the first top that has made  wanted me to quilt.  I got her to help me load it onto the machine and we discussed the pattern she wanted.  It is a scrappy made of squares of flannel from all the pajamas she made for her children.  There was also one from a dear family member that died when he was three.  I just love memory quilts and suggested that adding the names of the children to the quilting  would add to the specialness.  She mentioned that some of the things they said would also be a good idea.  I am waiting for her to write that down and then I can get started.  In the meantime, I did some more work on my sister-in-law's quilt and received news that I am getting a number of tops from a friend so I can finish them and donate to a charity.  I don't think I will every be caught up but it is nice to be busy.

Heidi's Vet Visit

It has been so hot that breathing has been an effort.  Dear hubby installed the AC today so that makes things a lot more bearable.  We are still having salad's for supper so it isn't necessary to turn on the oven but I am really hoping things cool down a bit.

I took our little Heidi to the vet on Monday and found out that the dry spots on the side of her mouth is because she has a bad molar and has been rubbing her face.  I was rather surprised because , up to this point, they have always remarked on how healthy her teeth are especially given her age.  We are glad it isn't anything more serious.

It looks like things are opening up a bit here in Ontario so the Burk's Falls Art and Crafts Centre is making plans to open the end of this month.  Hopefully, we don't get any more serious outbreaks.

You may have heard about the hate crime in one of Ontario's cities where a young man deliberately ran into a visible minority family.  The 90 year old grandmother, parents and 15 year old girl was killed-murdered, really.  The only survivor is a nine year old.  I cannot fathom how you can be driving along a street, see a family waiting to cross the intersection and deliberately turn the steering wheel so you can run them over.  I cannot understand that kind of hate.

It has been too hot to do a lot of sewing but I have done bits and pieces.  There are only two more borders to be added to the top I am working on and I will be able to get it on the frame,

Breeding T Shirts

Yesterday was tiring.  I always try to avoid  shopping on Thursdays in the summer as that is when a lot of the tourists arrive.  This week, however, it was the only day we had free so off we went.  As soon as we saw  the number of vehicles heading north, we knew we were going to have crowded stores.  To make things worse, not all tills were being used so the cashiers could be far enough apart and  safe from the virus.  I certainly didn't have a problem with that.  Most tellers are facing enough difficulties at work from angry and unreasonable customers without also having to put themselves at risk.

It didn't take me long to pick up a few groceries as this wasn't my big shopping but I almost put everything back when I saw the check out line.  Everyone was in a single file waiting their turn at the till and the line reach a good 1/3 of the way around the store.  I did eventually have my turn and, fortunately the ice cream hadn't melted.  Back home, put away shopping, have lunch and relax until supper time.

I have started purging some of my clothing today.  I have far too much of everything.  I am sure my T shirts are breeding as I keep getting rid of some and the next season, there are just as many.  The whole house could use  a good bit of sorting and tossing but that will have to wait until it is cooler.

Priorities

While most of Canada was watching the hockey game last night, I was doing a search for sewing machine repair video's.  I think that I mentioned  I have a machine that belonged to a friend and it isn't picking up the right side thread when doing zigzag and other decorative stitches.  I thought first it was the bobbin and, though it had been installed incorrectly, it wasn't that.  Second thought was timing.  After looking at a video  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmCaPhBKOwo),  it appears I was right.

The link I just posted is part of a 5 part series on machine repair.  The host is easy to follow and speaks clearly.  I have often thought about taking a machine repair course as I like doing mechanics but, at $700.00, I decided I would stick with videos.  In retrospect, I really don't have time to take on another job.  Quilting for myself and others as well as my writing and looking after our home keep me busy enough.  My husband has accepted that I will always be doing something but I now try to make sure a good bit of that something includes being with him.  As I told a boss who wanted me to work overtime "I married my husband to be with him."  It is easy to forget that sometimes but, as I get older, I am aware that the time we have together won't last forever.

Blessings,
